With seven candidates in the Mayor's race, maybe it’s time to examine the other candidates individual motives in running for such a very important position. I am glad I made the job look so easy that they think they can do it. My motivation is clear and apparent. I have been in service to you for thirteen years. You know me. I have never missed a Commission meeting in all those years. Though the amount of time has been rewarding and successful in many ways, I still feel like my service is not done. With a new professional City Manager a lot can be accomplished in short order. This will be my last term as I am term limited and I simply ask to continue doing the work of the people. Let experience count. No one is more qualified to serve as your Mayor than Roland Via. This year I received the Elected Official of the Year Golden Eagle Award by the Volusia League of Cities. This award was selected by nearly 100 of my elected  peers throughout the County, demonstrating my leadership abilities and positive visibility Holly Hill has obtained. I also serve as the Volusia County Mayoral Representative on the Central Florida Congress of Regional Leaders. I am one of seven Mayors form seven counties and we deal primarily with growth issues as put forth by the "How Shall We Grow" initiative with input from over 30,000 central Floridians over a two year period. I want to continue to represent you and Volusia County. I have always strived to make a difference and have a proven track record. My actions have spoken louder than my words. Do I have detractors? Of course I do. If you are not getting resistance, you’re not getting anything accomplished! Change is hard for some people and they want to stop any forward progress and REGRESS to the past. Something my Father taught me is “Nothing remains the same. Things either move forward or they fall behind.” I will fight with all my experienced knowledge and strength to avoid this. I will be your voice. Is there a problem having six opponents? Only if people that think I have no problem being re-elected and then they do not show up at the polls. It is important for every voter to VOTE. Either go to early voting which starts August 9th, use an absentee ballot or go to the polls on August 24th.   Accomplishments speak for themselves and you need to answer this question. Has the city moved forward? If so, then your choice is clear. Vote for Roland Via. Also, I recommend voting NO to the two year terms ballot question as it would regress the city backwards. Examine the candidates. If they are worth electing for two years then they will be for four years. I need your help. Please call or email me.
